Dunk!Festival just announced the first 5 bands in the 2018 lineup and I must say it’s pretty strong.
5 very different bands showing that the spectrum of Dunk!Festival is quite broad and have room for many subgenres of the main concept of the festival.
Dunk! has always been all about post-rock, but as one can see from the lineup of the preceding years, post-rock is a very broad definition of what’s going on at Dunk!Festival.
It’s definitely not only classic post-rock but also post-metal, post-doom, drone, neo-classical, electronic and what have you.
This is also what Dunk! has announced for the 2018 festival, so far.
We have Worriedaboutsatan with their ambient electronic universe, we have Cranial with their bombastic yet atmospheric, blackened post-metal, we have Thot with their energetic math-industrial and their Robert Smith 80’es like vocals, Swedish EF with their sensitive beautiful memorable post-indie melodies, and finally a favorite of mine US post-rockers Ranges that recently released an album that ended on my personal post-rock albums of the year list. You can read a review of Ranges album The Ascensionist here.
So a pretty cool line up so far and looking forward to seeing the full lineup.
If I should come with a few wishes for 2018 I would love to see just some of the following acts: US neo-classical post-rockers This Patch Of Sky, US post-metallers Set and Setting, German droners B O L T, Some of Elusive Sounds excellent acts: TRNA, Blankenbergen, Silent Whale Becomes A Dream and Ravena. And then some ear ripping post-metal, sludgy, doom acts like Sannhet, Redwood Hill, Terraformer, Glacier, Sound Architects. And finally one could wish for some post-black metal bands also. This is really a subgenre that is gaining more and more ground these days, and there is really some excellent acts out there. Just when looking at my local scene in Denmark there are a few excellent acts Solbrud, Sunken, Morild, where specially Morild with their atmospheric post-black metal would fit a festival like Dunk! really good. There are tons more, but just off the top of my head.
No matter what I’m sure Dunk! will put out a killer lineup for 2018, but until then, do check out Worriedaboutsatan, Cranial, Thot, EF, and Ranges.
